Khmer Culture
The Kingdom of Cambodia has a rich history stretching back more than a thousand years. Cambodians are passionate about passing Khmer music, theatre, recipes, dances, poetry, and art styles to future generations. Under Pol Pot's regime in the 1970s, much of Cambodia's unique culture was stripped away. Intellectuals and artists were targeted by his brutal Khmer Rouge regime. Cambodians have worked hard to restore the soul of their beautiful country, and we were fortunate to meet many of these people during our two weeks in the Kingdom. We are incredibly grateful to the Khmer people for their warm welcome. Saum arkoun!
